Honours Bachelor of Health Care Technology Management Survey for Employers

Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology is a public community college located in Ontario, and offers a wide range of programs in a number of different disciplines including business, information technology, media, art, design, skilled trades, justice, emergency services, health and engineering technology.

Durham College is currently working on an application to seek approval from Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB), Ontario, Canada to offer an Honours Bachelor of Health Care Technology Management degree. The proposed degree in Health Care Technology Management will prepare graduates to work in the healthcare industry and be responsible for planning and managing medical equipment and related technology aspects, including product assessment, vendor management, risk management, resource optimization and project management. In addition, the graduates will also be able to supervise the activities of other health care professionals, such as medical device equipment specialists, and liaise with clinicians on safe, effective and optimal equipment planning and use.

The proposed four-year Health Care Technology Management degree will have all the qualities of a traditional university honours degree but place greater emphasis on the practical application of theory.

This program will be designed so that:

• research, reasoning, critical thinking and analysis will be emphasized; 
• project work will be linked to the work of related organizations (e.g. hospitals, clinical labs, medical device manufacturers and distributors etc.); and 
• a mandatory work placement of 14 weeks will give students related work experience.

Your advice and feedback as active participants in the field of healthcare and as potential employers is critical to the development of a viable degree program. The survey is expected to take approximately five minutes to complete. The information collected through this survey will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used by Durham College to determine the feasibility and support for offering an Honours Bachelor of Health Care Technology Management program.
